Speaking at 2 Edinburgh Events as a Female Founder: What I’ve Learned
April turned out better than expected.
I spoke at two events that left me feeling really grateful (and, tbh, slightly nervous. But hey, I survived! :P)
I was first invited to the University of Edinburgh Entrepreneurs’ first ever Women Entrepreneurship panel, alongside the lovely Nicola Thomson-Berwick (COO of Investing Women Angels), to share our founder journeys - the grind, the detours and the moments that led us to work we care about.
Then I joined a session with Common Purpose to chat careers, skills, and what it’s really like running a business in Edinburgh. The students were soooo switched on and asked properly thoughtful questions. (Secretly, I love chats like that! Curious minds make you reflect a bit deeper.)
Both events reminded me: career paths are rarely straight.
A few years ago, I was on the other side of events like these...first as an international student figuring out life here, then as a young professional still unsure what she wanted. I definitely didn’t think I’d be running my own business one day.
I’ve never had a business degree. No background in entrepreneurship. I’ve just figured it out one mistake at a time.
And weirdly, that’s what people have found inspiring - not that I’ve nailed it, but that I’m doing it anyway. That stuck with me.
I’ve made a few big decisions lately. Some might look like steps backward on paper. It’s scary, not gonna lie! But I’ve done hard things before. And every time I trust myself, things work out better than expected.
So I’ll keep showing up as I am - still figuring things out, still making mistakes and learning as I go. Not here to give business hacks (honestly, I’m still Googling half the things I do), but if you're curious, follow the journey and see how it's going 🫶
